What to Bring for Your Wadi Rum Desert Tour
Before starting your desert adventure in Wadi Rum, it is important to prepare properly and bring suitable clothing and essential items for exploring the desert environment.
General Essentials
When visiting Wadi Rum, a few basic items will make your desert experience much more comfortable.
Comfortable clothing suitable for sightseeing and outdoor activities
Sun protection: sun hat or Bedouin scarf, sunglasses, and sunscreen
Supportive footwear such as comfortable walking shoes or sandals
A small backpack to carry essentials like a camera, water bottle, and sunscreen
Clothing for Warm Months (April – October)
During the warmer months in Wadi Rum, temperatures can become quite high during the day. Lightweight and breathable clothing is recommended.
Suggested clothing includes:
T-shirts or lightweight button-up shirts
Athletic leggings, shorts, or loose trousers
Natural fabrics such as cotton and linen are ideal for hot weather.
Even during warm months, evenings in the desert can feel cooler, so bringing a light jacket or long-sleeved shirt is recommended.
Clothing for Cooler Months (November – March)
Winter months in Wadi Rum can be cold, especially after sunset. Packing warm layers will make your stay much more comfortable.
Recommended items include:
A fleece or thermal top
Comfortable trousers
A down or insulated jacket
Warm hat and thick socks
While daytime temperatures are often pleasant, desert nights can become quite cold.
Protecting Your Valuables
The desert environment includes sand and dust, which can easily damage delicate items.
Avoid bringing expensive accessories or unnecessary valuables. Electronics and small items can be protected by placing them in resealable bags to keep sand away.
What to Bring for Overnight Desert Stays
If your tour includes an overnight stay in Wadi Rum, we recommend bringing the following:
Warm clothing for the evening
Sleepwear
A headlamp or small flashlight
Toiletries and any personal medication
Even if the day is sunny, desert nights can be cold, particularly during winter.
What to Bring for Hiking in Wadi Rum
For hiking activities in the desert, comfortable clothing and practical gear are important.
Recommended items include:
Comfortable clothing such as T-shirts, hiking trousers, shorts, or athletic leggings
Sun protection: hat or Bedouin scarf, sunglasses, and sunscreen
Lightweight hiking shoes or hiking sandals with good grip
A small backpack for personal items such as water, camera, and an extra layer
For longer trekking routes, see our Desert Trek Packing Guide for a more detailed list of equipment.
What to Bring for Camel Tours
Camel rides are a traditional and unique way to explore Wadi Rum. Choosing the right clothing will make the experience more comfortable.
Recommended items include:
Comfortable clothing such as T-shirts, button-up shirts, hiking trousers, long shorts, or athletic leggings
Sun protection: hat or Bedouin scarf, sunglasses, and sunscreen
Warm layers for sunrise or sunset camel rides
Avoid tight jeans, skirts, or dresses that may cause discomfort during the ride.
