For trekking and hiking advice, see our Packing Guide for Hiking & Trekking.
What happens if it rains?
Our 4x4 tours operate throughout the year, including during light rain. Most rainfall in Wadi Rum occurs between December and February, and showers are usually short.
Many guests choose to continue their tours even if it rains, while others prefer to spend the day relaxing at our Desert Camp. Since most activities in Wadi Rum take place outdoors, we recommend checking the weather forecast before your trip and bringing appropriate clothing and footwear.
During the tour, you can always sit inside the vehicle if the weather becomes cold or rainy. If the forecast predicts heavy or prolonged rain, you may cancel or reschedule your tour.
On average, Wadi Rum receives only about 14 days of rain per year.
-
When do the tours begin, and what time should I arrive?
We offer several 4x4 desert tours with different durations and start times depending on the season. The available start times are listed at the bottom of each tour page, and your exact start time will be confirmed in your booking confirmation email. Please plan to arrive 10–15 minutes before your tour begins.
Can I arrive in the evening, stay overnight in your camp, and take the tour the next day?
Yes, this is possible. Simply let us know when making your booking. Camp check-in is usually between 4 PM and 7 PM (earlier in winter). Tours on the following day generally start around 9 AM.
What can I do with my luggage?
You can bring your luggage with you on day tours. During multi-day tours, your luggage can remain safely in the tour vehicle, and you will have access to it overnight. Many guests prefer to pack essentials in a smaller bag and leave their main luggage at our office in Wadi Rum Village, where it will be stored safely.
Do your guides speak other languages such as French, Italian, or Spanish?
Our guides speak Arabic and English. Their English is learned through working in tourism, so it may not always be perfect. Some guides may know a few words or phrases from other languages but are not fluent.
Do you offer group tours with other travellers to reduce the price?
We mainly specialise in private tours. Occasionally, we offer shared tours when guests request them. These shared tours are listed separately at the top of our website when available.
Do your desert tours involve walking or hiking?
Yes. Our tours include several stops at scenic locations and landmarks, where you can walk and explore. For example, our Full Day Desert Tour includes a 30-minute self-guided walk through Abu Khashaba Canyon. If you are specifically interested in hiking, you may prefer one of our Day Hiking Tours.
I am pregnant. Can I still join a tour?
We generally do not recommend desert tours for guests in the later stages of pregnancy, as the desert tracks can be quite bumpy when travelling by 4x4 vehicle.
For guests in the early stages of pregnancy, we can arrange a closed vehicle, which provides a smoother ride. If you would like this option, please mention it in your booking request.

What time of the year is best for hiking in Wadi Rum?
The best seasons for hiking in Wadi Rum are late February to April and late September to November, when temperatures are more comfortable for outdoor activities.
During the winter months, the weather can be cooler and sometimes unpredictable, but hiking can still be enjoyable if you come prepared with warm clothing.
We do not operate hiking tours or multi-day treks during the summer months, as temperatures can become extremely high. Hiking in the desert during summer is not recommended due to the heat.
What should I wear during a hike in Wadi Rum?
For recommended clothing and gear, please see our Packing Guide for Hiking & Trekking.
Which hike do you recommend when travelling with children?
We recommend the Jabal Al-Hash Day Hike. Depending on a child’s hiking experience, this tour is generally suitable for children aged 12 and older.
How many hours will we hike each day during multi-day treks?
On average, you can expect to walk around 5–6 hours per day. There is usually a lunch break of up to two hours in the shade, allowing time for food preparation and enjoying traditional Bedouin tea.
This break is also a good opportunity to relax, take photos, read, or learn more from your guide about Bedouin life in the desert.
Can I take a shower during a multi-day trek?
Water is a limited resource in the desert. We carry enough water for washing hands and face, and you can fill containers to take a simple bucket shower in the evening once the wild campsite is set up. Please ask your guide if you would like to do this.
We also provide bottled mineral water for drinking and brushing teeth.
Do you cater for vegetarian, gluten-free, or vegan diets?
Yes. We can accommodate most dietary requirements. Our meals can be adapted to vegetarian or vegan diets, using fresh local vegetables.
-
What are the check-in and check-out times at your Desert Camp?
Check-in is from 4:00 PM (or earlier during the winter months), and check-out is by 10:00 AM. Tours from the camp usually start around 9:00 AM.
What bathroom facilities are available at the camp?
Our camp has shared bathroom facilities with washbasins, western-style toilets, and showers. Water for the showers is heated using solar energy.
Is there electricity in the camp?
Yes. Each tent has electric lighting and a power socket for charging devices.
Is there Wifi or cellphone service in your Desert Camp?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available in our Desert Camp. However, mobile phone signal is usually not available in the desert area. The Wi-Fi allows guests to stay connected while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the desert.
What food do you serve at the camp?
We serve traditional Jordanian food. Dinner usually includes fresh vegetables, chicken, Arabic salad, rice, and flatbread. Most ingredients are purchased locally and prepared fresh by our cooks.
Breakfast typically includes cheese, jams, eggs, yogurt, ful medames, bread, za’atar, olive oil, tea, and coffee.
If you have dietary restrictions, please mention them when making your booking. We will do our best to accommodate your needs within the limitations of the desert environment.
Can I bring alcohol? Is alcohol allowed?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own alcohol or beverages. Please note that alcohol is not sold at our camp.
What activities can I do at your Desert Camp?
Our Desert Camp is an excellent base for exploring the Wadi Rum Protected Area. Activities include desert sightseeing tours, camel rides, guided day hikes, and multi-day desert treks.

What is sleeping “Under the Stars”?
Under the Stars is our wild camping experience in the Wadi Rum desert. Instead of staying in a traditional camp, you will sleep outdoors in nature beneath the open sky.
In the evening, we gather around the campfire in a desert cave, where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful desert atmosphere. When it is time to sleep, your bed will be prepared outside under the stars.
We provide everything you need for a comfortable night, including a mattress, pillow, blanket, and sleeping bag.
How do I go to the toilet or wash?
Because of the remote camping location, there are no toilets or shower facilities.
Guests simply find a private spot behind rocks or dunes, dig a small hole in the sand, and cover it after use. Toilet paper or wipes can be burned afterward. We provide water for washing hands.
Is it possible to sleep “Under the Stars” in winter?
Yes, it is still possible during the winter months. For adventurous travellers, sleeping under the stars in winter can be an unforgettable experience.
We carefully choose sheltered camping locations protected from wind and weather. In the evening, we sit around the campfire with warm blankets and jackets to stay comfortable.
However, if you prefer warmer conditions, this experience may be less suitable during the colder months.
